Interaction Metrics

Company Information

Marketing Manager with a Focus on SEO Writing

Interaction Metrics is a boutique customer experience audit agency. We dramatically boost the value of customer feedback programs, customer service evaluations and customer service skills coaching.

Stop reading if you are looking for a position in which you will direct a staff to do things, or control a large media spend; this is not that. Continue reading if you are looking for a position in which you will do meaningful work, showcase your intellectual curiosity and achieve important goals.

You report to the owner/founder and work collaboratively in a small office-setting located in inner SE Portland. You have enough of a science background to absorb the nuances of what Interaction Metrics does enabling you to blog about topics like research principles and survey design.

And, you’ll need to be creative and ambitious in your approach because to maximize readership you’ll riff on well-known names. For instance, you might write a post stating that Jeff Bezos needs to think more deeply about customer service and then you’ll need to support that statement in a super credible way.

Blog writing is your primary activity and you’ll use WordPress to post one to two blogs per week. Based on the best of those blogs, you’ll also write and execute a monthly newsletter using the platform Campaign Monitor. Other weekly activities include rewriting the Interaction Metrics website to drive more SEO and going back in time with our blogs to correct images that were lost when we moved to a different platform and to increase SEO.

This position is reviewed at 2 months, 4 months, and 6 months. At 2 months, we discuss how we can leverage your time; at 4 months, the compensation package is reviewed to make it a bit north of fair. At 6 months, if FT makes sense and you want it then FT salary with bonus is available. However, to start, the position is PT and hours are approx. 20 per week, but could be a bit more or less, to ensure that projects started that week are ‘shipped out’ – thus payment to start is hourly.

Pay is dependent on how much proven experience you bring to this position.

This position is great for someone who perhaps took a year off from a big marketing job and is ready to get back to work but needs something more flexible than the usual full-time grinder position. It could also work for someone who is currently doing content marketing and wants to transition into a position where they have more responsibility.

Your Experience:

BA/BS from a good school with a good GPA. Grad School Degree, even better!

Min. 2 years of marketing, SEO, blog, WordPress and website experience

Experienced with using metrics to evaluate progress in 2 areas of marketing: awareness-building & lead generation

Proven SEO and Google Analytics expertise

Duties | Responsibilities | Your Typical Week:

  • In 10-12 hours, write 1 to 2 blog posts per week that are pithy, fun, memorable and thought provoking.
  • Use email, LinkedIn groups, and twitter to build awareness around those posts.
  • Write and send a short monthly newsletter using Campaign Monitor.
  • Spend a few hours each month updating the Campaign Monitor list, rote tasks are very limited but part of the job.
  • SEO: Work with existing key words/phrases and over time expand this list. As above, you’ll apply your Google Analytics know-how.
  • Community Building: Spend about 2 hours each week responding to questions on the CXPA site and finding other communities (Forrester, LinkedIn groups etc.) where you can add value while publicizing what we do.
  • Manage a small Google AdWords campaign. This includes writing Google Ads and recommending the spend.
  • Oversee a Thought Leadership campaign to ensure the founder speaks at conferences and web events once per month.
  • Find new opportunities. While you will never be asked to do any of the sales, demos, etc., approx. 2-3 hours per week will be spent on uncovering new potential opportunities. For example, Warby Parker publicizes broadly that they use NPS Score. Use LinkedIn or some other channel to educate WP leaders on other metrics that would be valuable for them to monitor. Or recruitment sites can be a great way to find opportunities because a company may be looking for a CX Director when they might be better served by contracting with Interaction Metrics instead.
  • Proof proposals and client work. Follow up on client work to gather feedback, testimonials etc.
  • Occasionally, (as in a few hours per month) when we need an extra mystery shopper or interviewer, assist with client work.

This position is open and available for immediate hire. Please send your resume, writing sample, plus a cover letter to jobs@InteractionMetrics.com. Expect if you advance in the hiring process that you will be given a few proofing, editing and Google Analytics quizzes to clarify the kinds of skills you bring to Interaction Metrics!  Looking forward to hearing from you!
