Meet Terry “Starbucker” St. Marie, MindShare’s November Speaker

pdxMindShare hosts its monthly career-focused workshop & networking event at Trader Vic’s in downtown Portland on November 19th. This will be the last traditional event of the year, and it’s going to be a great one! Each month, we like to bring in speakers to inspire and educate attendees to help them achieve their career goals, whether it’s to find a new job, secure a promotion or change careers, as well as give everyone a chance to network with area professionals. Terry “Starbucker” St. Marie will talk to us about being a more human leader by using his 8 proven principles. You can visit the event page here. No RSVP is required. It’s free to anyone who would like to join us!

What Terry wants you to know about him:

I’m a native Midwesterner now living in Portland, Oregon.  Until 2010 I had been in in the corporate business world for 28 years in various leadership positions, most recently as the SVP of Operations for Bresnan Communications, a cable TV operator in the Rocky Mountain west.

Since then I’ve been out on my own as a business consultant, strategist, coach and angel investor.

I’m also the co-founder of a new online magazine focused on Oregon entrepreneurs, BuiltOregon.com, which will be launching this fall.

My career’s biggest passion has been the practice of what I call More Human Leadership. It’s a philosophy that is unabashedly personal – all about positivity, purpose, empathy & compassion, humility, and love.

And, if you want to dig a little deeper, here’s a quick look at where I’m coming from (otherwise known as my “Crash Davis Belief Statement”, with a hat tip to one of my favorite movies, Bull Durham):

I believe in the incredible potential of the human spirit, the vast underappreciated beauty of the earth, my wife’s smile and the love that radiates from it, long hugs and soft kisses, weddings and butterflies, honesty and courage, incurable optimism, the men and women in the arena, movies that make me laugh and cry at the human condition, the Green Bay Packers, downward dogs, a fine hot almond milk latte, the warmness of friendship, the spirit of Built Oregon, coconut milk ice cream, Elton & Bernie, the Grand Tetons, the amazing people in PDX, common courtesy, melodies I can’t get out of my head, amazing grace, Mom & Dad & my two sisters, more human leadership, government above hypocrisy, the daily grind, deep cleansing breaths, the power of dreams, the incredible wisdom of my grandmother, E=MC², and God and the Golden Rule.

What will you be covering in your presentation?

I’m pretty excited about this presentation, because I’m going to talk about my passion for More Human leadership, and the 8 key principles that guide it.    What’s really cool is that this set of principles can be “ported” beyond just leadership – to a grander view of a happier and more fulfilled life

Why should Portland professionals attend?

I’ll get right to the point:  these 8 principles are life & business game-changers for anyone who has the “more human” stuff to apply them.

What are the top 3 takeaways for attendees?

 1)     How the simple act of writing down your goals and passions can make a huge difference.

2)     How “aiming past the target” of business profit & success to a higher purpose can pay huge personal dividends.

3)     The secret of the “emotional connective tissue” that builds great teams and creates multiple opportunities.
