Meet Dawn, Ms. ZigZag, our May pdxMindShare Speaker

Next week, Wednesday, May 20th to be exact, we will host our monthly career-focused workshop and networking event at Trader Vic’s in downtown Portland. Each month we bring in expert speakers to help professionals in the area reach their career objectives. Whether it’s to get a promotion, a new job or change careers, our goal is to give attendees ideas and tools to use to help them reach their goals faster and more gracefully. All our workshops are followed by networking where there is the potential to connect with dozens of other Portland professionals and even potential employers looking to hire. This month, we are bringing in Dawn Montefusco to present on “How to Get Your Business Groove Back.” If you are feeling stuck or in a funk, this will be a great workshop to attend. As a writer, coach and speaker, with lots of energy, she’ll motivate you and inspire you to improve your game!

Please take a moment, and meet our May speaker through our blog, and hopefully we’ll see you again or meet you in person on the 20th! The workshop begins at 4:30PM and networking follows at 5:30PM.

About Dawn:

Tell us a little about yourself:
Life Coach. Writer. Blogger. Speaker. Poet. I have an extensive background in writing, coaching, speaking, and marketing. My keenest talent is helping people take the stress out of the discovery and creation process and find clear ways to get to the next level of success. Whether it’s focusing on life coaching, writing books or finishing projects, I help people rediscover their true purpose and get the job done. I have an MFA in creative writing from Eastern Washington University and I’m a certified life coach though Erickson College. I also have an extensive background in social media and marketing. You can learn more about me at www.dawnmontefusco.com. I also have an advice column at www.askzigzag.com.

Why is my nickname ZigZag?
ZigZag (or ZeeZee, or just Zee) is a nickname that became my middle name. (No, my parents are not hippies and I’m not named after the rolling papers.)  The name stuck ten years ago due to going to Burning Man. It became apparent that I am an “extrovert that is tenaciously reclusive.” I zig and I zag. I’m quiet and I’m ferociously verbose. I’m a logical thinker and I’m a creative wildcat. A few years later I discovered the term ‘zigzag-thinking’. The purpose of zigzag-thinking is to produce good brainstorming from both left and right sides of the brain to create as many new ideas as possible. It is the brainchild of creative thinking, which focuses on what could be instead of what is.

What will you be covering in your presentation?
In this presentation I will help professionals identity the best way to get their mojo back if they are feeling stuck. We’ve all heard about comfort zones, but comfort zones are really just stories we tell ourselves. People get stuck in their stories. This is true in business as well as any area of life. Once you remove the story that is holding you back you’ll see endless possibility. That’s a big idea to swallow, but it’s true. The trick is to align your thoughts, feelings and actions, remove the unwanted story and take a few small risks to create immediate results.

Sometimes people don’t even realize their groove is gone because they’ve gotten so used to being a certain way. This presentation is based on the simplicity of how to identify a blind spot, move through it, and get back in action to reach new levels of success.

Why should Portland professionals attend?
Portland is one of the fastest growing cities in the nation. Population growth can either be exciting or overwhelming depending on your business perspective. Overwhelm is another source of losing your groove. People write stories that they can’t handle more, but that’s not true. We are all meant to be prosperous. Learning how to embrace change and keep up with the times is key for Portland Professionals.

What are the top 3 takeaways for attendees?

  • Attendees will be able to identify one area of their professional life where they feel they have lost their groove or could be doing better. From there they will learn one action step to improve their game.
  • Attendees will learn how different parts of their life can determine their ability to thrive. It’s not just about business. Personal health, mental health, family, and friends all influence success.
  • Everyone will look taller. It sounds weird but it’s true. A motivated crowd breeds shared confidence. People leave with wider smiles, better posture and are excited to take new action steps towards their business goals.
