4 Leadership Lessons from a Recent Blockbuster

With the Oscars just behind us, and talk of the dresses, performances and speeches still linger, I thought it was a good time to think about these leadership lessons learned from George Clooney’s character, astronaut Matt Kowalski, in the movie Gravity. Kent Lewis, pdxMindShar’es founder and long-time entrepreneur, wrote this article just last year, and the lessons he took away from this film are invaluable. We may not experience this type of crisis, like being lost in space, but we do stumble upon events now and again that force us to step up as leaders and help those around us, or those we are managing, through it. As Kent so eloquently states in his article, “I certainly enjoyed Gravity for its powerful realism and epic survival storyline. That said, Clooney’s Kowalski’s character inspired me to be a better leader through four key strategies: storytelling, staying cool, distracting and inspiring. We may not all be a Clooney or Kowalski, but that shouldn’t stop us from reaching for the stars.”
